A 46-year-old man was killed while attempting to cross the Southern Main Road in Couva on Saturday morning.
Police said Rudy Toolsie died at the scene after being thrown several feet into the area.
Investigators said that a Frontier pick-up van, driven by Direll Mc Donald, was proceeding west along the Southern Main Road, Couva, around 2.20 am on Saturday.
On reaching the vicinity of Vice City Bar, Toolsie, of Smith Street, Couva, attempted to cross the roadway and reportedly walked into the path of McDonald’s vehicle.
Toolsie was thrown several feet into the air and landed some distance away on the southern side of the road. He died instantly.
Police took a statement from McDonald and he was allowed to leave but not before he was warned of Intended Prosecution under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50.
In an unrelated incident, police are probing a collision between a private vehicle driven by a Police Inspector and a T&T Defence vehicle driven by a soldier.
An official report stated that around 2.50 pm last Friday, Insp Kirt Perry was driving his vehicle along Clarence Street in St James, when a Defence Force vehicle driven by a soldier reportedly crashed into the car.
